What is an Assisted Living Home (ALH)?
An Assisted Living Home is the best option among other living arrangements available for our senior citizens who cannot comfortably and safely live alone. An ALH is a licensed home that can house 5-10 residents and critically looked after by the Health Department and other government agencies. Residents receive a home cooked meal at a dinning table rather than a cafeteria among Assisted Living Facilities and commonly known as Nursing Homes. The seniors in an ALH are also among friendly staff that is looking after the them 24/7.
Why should I choose an assisted living home?
- It’s Considered Home
People are raised and grow up in a home setting, not a commercial hospital setting. Its home! Its private, it’s spacious and extremely friendly. From birthday parties to feeding wild birds on the patio or gathered together for a great classic film with delicious popcorn , each senior benefits from their freedom and independence.
- Home Cooked meals
When it comes to food, the difference is that of light and day. The seniors feel right at home with their favorite ingredients in their daily nutritional diet. Each senior has a special taste when it comes to food as we all do. ASL prepares each meal with the freshest of ingredients and the best quality of food for each resident upon their special taste. Don’t expect to find any personal touch of flavor with a chef that is preparing food for dozens upon dozens of seniors.
- Personalized Care
At ASL each senior receives one on one personalized care. Our care ratios are 1 experienced care giver to approximately 3 residents. This allows your loved one to gain trust and very close attention to a caregiver. In contrast, senior nursing homes and other assisted living facilities lack the one on one care. This primarily due to the fact that there is 1 caregiver to 10-13 residents. How can a caregiver possibly pay close attention and monitors each residents well being? At ASL each senior not only receives a life lasting friend but a true guardian.
- Medication Watch
Whether your loved one is in a nursing home or an assisted living home the caregivers are to administer medications according to the doctor’s specifications. However an immense difference is that in assisted living homes the care giver is in constant supervision and monitors the affects of each prescribed medication. The doctor is immediately notified and the prescription is changed. In a nursing home or assisted living facility the caregivers have many patients to give medicine to; there is no time for monitoring. They just trust the doctor! We also trust the doctor, but because the doctor is not 24/7 with the seniors they can only anticipates that his/her prescription is beneficial to the senior’s health. We are here to look after the best interest of the seniors.
