Causes:

Hearing loss associated with age or age-related loss of hearing occurs in both ears, affecting them equally. With age-related hearing loss, you may not realize that you’ve lost some of your ability to hear because of the loss being gradual. Although there are many causes, it mostly arises from changes in the inner ear with age like damage to the tiny hair cells inside the inner ear. Loss of hearing can also result from changes in the middle ear, certain medical conditions or medications can also play a role in this regard.

Some other factors that may cause the condition include:

  1. Medical conditions like diabetes.
  2. Medicines like chemotherapy drugs for cancers.
  3. Family history
  4. Continuous exposure to loud noises.

Prevention:

Hearing loss is associated with a combination of age-related and noise-induced factors among senior people. Wearing earplugs during exposure to loud sound, firearms, or outdoor equipment can help you protect yourself from noise-induced causes. It is as important to limit your exposure to prolonged loud noises.

Although there is no cure, but there are many ways to treat and help reduce hearing loss over time. You can also review the options of hearing aids available.
